domestication replication (2020)
Domestication Replication is a video and printmaking project in which I am digitizing analogue photographs taken in Tirol, Austria by my grandmother in the 1940s, and appropriating through digital collage and montage. I specifically was looking at images of domesticated farm dogs. I am motivated by the idea of the replication of images as a conceptual allegory to the domestication and breeding of animals.
The process began with digital image manipulation of the scanned analogue photographs. These images were then printed and exposed onto lithographic plates and printed.
The video uses these lithographs to show the transitions between the different printed images.
